The Norwegian human rights organization said that the “brutality” of the regime forces has increased significantly in the past few days against the demonstrators. Remar Hassani of the organization told CNN that the city of Piranshahr is under intense attack by the Iranian regime forces.
According to Hengaw Organization, Piranshahr is one of several cities that rose up in support of the city of Mahabad, which is under attack by the regime forces.
On Sunday, video clips published by Hengaw Organization and other anti-Iranian media outlets showed that Iranian forces fired randomly in the Kurdish cities of Javanrud and Piranshahr. CNN could not independently verify the authenticity of the videos.
On Sunday, the streets of the city of Mahabad in the Kurdish region in western Iran witnessed an intense security presence, amid reports that members of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard were deployed in the city.
Last Saturday, the Iranian security and military forces entered Mahabad, which was a main focus during the violent protests in the streets, according to the semi-official Iranian “Tasnim” agency, which has close links to the Iranian Revolutionary Guard.
Tasnim Agency stated that the security forces arrested all those involved in the recent violence in the city, and accused what it described as “rioters” of “attacking homes”, especially those belonging to the security forces, and accused the demonstrators of “looting” and destabilizing security from while on the streets.
Helicopters were also seen flying over Mahabad and members of Iran’s Revolutionary Guards were seen entering the city, heavily armed, according to the Hengaw Human Rights Organization, which is a media outlet for reform activists in Iran and monitors human rights abuses in the region. CNN cannot independently verify the authenticity of the report due to restrictions imposed by the Iranian authorities on the media.
Hengau and the Oslo-based Iranian Human Rights Group reported heavy gunfire in the city on Sunday, but it was not clear if there were any casualties.
On Saturday, Hengaw identified the names of at least 4 people killed in Mahabad since last Thursday, and these victims are among the increasing death toll across the Kurdish region, as the organization monitored at least 32 deaths in several cities during the past six days.
Azin Sheikhi from Henghao told CNN on Saturday that “the brutality of government forces has increased significantly” since last Tuesday, and “the use of lethal weapons against demonstrators has increased,” with a new wave of protests starting across Iran last week.
At least 378 people have been killed by Iranian security forces, including 47 children, since last September, according to what the Iranian Human Rights Organization announced last Saturday.
Iranians, led by girls and women, are demonstrating against Iranian oppression after the killing of an Iranian girl of Kurdish origin, Mahsa Amini, 3 days after she was detained by the religious morality police.
